I understand assessment and the stakes involved. I have written more than 200 test prep books and worked with several State Departments of Education to develop standardized tests, including assessment items, standards, and scoring rubrics. I have also facilitated content and bias review meetings with stakeholders on behalf of various states.

From teaching ESL to creating materials for Libraries without Borders, I've spent my career helping students build literacy skills. I have written thousands of pages of reading materials at different reading levels as well as re-lexiled and redesigned textbooks, articles, and programs to be more accessible to all learners.

I have more than 35 years of experience writing, editing, and managing the publication of instructional and assessment materials. I've worked extensively in the fields of literacy and STEM and have conceived and designed innovative programs, including an engineering mentoring program for Grades 3–8 and alternative assessment tools for students with disabilities and non-native speakers of English.
